What does it take to get into NYU or Cornell?

I know im not going make it most likely. But still

I am a Freshman w/ a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA. I really want to get into a good college. I'm not doing well enough though, right?

I'm in 3 clubs, play soccer, take private piano lessons. I volunteer at this womans flower shop and im going to volunteer at the hospital.

What should i do?

What does it take to get into NYU or Cornell?
3.7 - 4.0 GPA; 2250-2400 SAT scores; high SAT 2 scores; leadership qualities; internships; job experiences; honors/A.P. classes; money; teacher recommendation letters; a great personal essay; and sports.

That's what it takes.
Reply:don't worry, you're only a freshman!

take challenging courses, but not just all the honors/ap courses, take courses you WANT to take, not ones that will just look pretentious. take courses corresponding to what you might want to major in (if you have any idea yet, :D). colleges usually do not pay attention to freshman year gpa's anyways, what really matters is that you excel during your sophomore and junior year, and that you don't fall during your senior year! keep up with your extracurriculars, service hours and such, and try to really get up there with your academics! also, you should definitely start working on your applications over your senior year summer. you won't regret that...
Reply:I'd say your on the right track... =D
Reply:yes grades are really important and the stats that have already been mentioned are real. However, a large part of admission is also in your essay and recommendations. You need good grades to get in, but they aren't looking to fill up a freshman class with 4.0 eggheads. they want well rounded people!! focus on developing your interests, doing well, and having fun in high school. good luck!
