More Sightings of the Filipino Wit.....?

The Philippines is full of wordplay. The local accent, in which F and P are fairly interchangeable, is often used very cleverly, such as at the flower shop in Diliman called Petal Attraction.

Much of the wordplay in the Philippines is deliberate, with retailers favouring witty names, often based on Western celebrities and movies - e.g., a bread shop called Anita Bakery, a 24-hour restaurant called Doris Day and Night, a garment shop called Elizabeth Tailoring and a hairdresser called Felix The Cut.

Smart travellers can decipher initially baffling signs by simply trying out a Taglish (Tagalog-English) accent, such as that used on a sign at a restaurant in Cebu : "We Hab Sop-Drink In Can An In Batol." A sewing accessories shop called Beads And Pieces also makes use of the local accent.

oh yeah, Black Hat, obeertym was a favorite hang-out for cash-strapped die-hard beer-drinkers. i can still visualize the yummy grilled seafood and tengang baboy they have/
Reply:Wow!! Nice question...I didn't see any restaurant here in Cebu using the sign "We Hab Sop-Drink In Can An In Batol"..heheh that's funny *LOL* So. the topic here is about filipino wordplay? I don't know with them why are they using it? It's not funny anymore...its' irritating me because it shows that Filipino is not very good at making names especially in games especially using there names! Example: XxBliSsxX they're using any symbol to represent there nice names. That's all.
Reply:sweet2water, you made me remember something

i met this cute guy in baguio and we were making kulitan with each other.. then he teased me "Forky"... i thought he was just joking but then i realized he was unconsciously interchanging 'p' with 'f'

i stiffled a laughter coz i dont want him to get embarassed.. but i cant help but get tearyeyed because of humor.

Reply:anyone here know the company, automobili co. ? hehehehe... Filipinos truly are one of a kind.
Reply:Yeah, wordplay plays a dominant role in Philippine trade. Often very smart, and all very entertaining. :D This could probably be because the Filipinos are generally humorous people, and lots are "mababaw ang kaligayahan", and laughter and jokes tend to catch our attention more quickly than serious signs and names. :D
