Ive tried growing gypsophila from rhyzome, but all i get is straggly plants with just a few greyish white....?

...flowers that look nothing like you see in flower shops.

what might i be doing wrong?

ive grown them in tubs and they seem eager to shoot up, but then after a while the give up and get straggly--though i keep them well watered.

i know there are many types of gypsophila, but i have bought the ones that have a photo of a frothy white mass of flowers.

i have tried twice now so its not a one off problem.

whats gone wrong?

lastly if i try to grow from seeds instead, how long will it take to get a decent -at least- football size mass of flowers?

The roots are rotting from water. You even need to protect them from rain. More information at this link:

Keep trying, they are beautiful.
Reply:Gypsopila are herbaceous perennials so take a few years to establish to best effect. Plant them in the garden in well drained soil - you might be giving them too much water or they aren't draining properly as they're in pots.
