Is there a such thing as a black rose??

Im really interested to know cause i worked at a flower shop for like 2 years and not have seen a black rose but i have seen pink, white, red, and purple

Is there a such thing as a black rose??
No, there isn't. This has been the 'Holy Grail' of rose breeders for thousands of years. It hasn't been achieved yet even by genetical engineering. The only way to get a black or blue rose is by adding special chemicals in the water the cut roses sit in, which modifies the colour of the petals. The truth is, not only there are no black roses, but there are very few species of plants with black flowers altogether! Most of the times, what appears as black is in fact a very dark red or purple.

However, if you want a bouquet of black roses, I can recommend a few varieties with very dark petals: Baccara, Black Beauty, Barkarole and Black Magic.
Reply:yes type black rose into yahoo searck.Good Luck
Reply:yes! view one of any hue with the lights off
Reply:Saw it in Udaipur, India at a botanical garden. As people say here it must be a very dark purple rose and not just jet black. but tough to differentiate.
Reply:yeah there is a black rose you have 2 paint it black
Reply:if you have some white cut roses and stand them in water with black food dye in they will turn black, you can do this with any colour
Reply:yea but its a special breed or somethin and its extremely rare. but ive only seen once in my life and its amazing!
Reply:omg vaarmit or whatever it's name was... lmao...

I don't think a pure black rose can be created naturally...
Reply:It has been tried many times, without success.
Reply:No
Reply:I believe there are very deeeeeep purple roses that people sometimes call a black rose, but a true black I have never heard of (not a natural/real one anyway). I know that some guy kept cross-pollinating orchids to get like 1 black one after several years, so it is possible I guess if you have the time and patience.
Reply:yes, got black rose also in India
Reply:i don't know the answer. but:

is rose in any color or in black not beautiful?

maybe we should just enjoy it, whatever the color, and not worry about the color so much. there are so many other things to think about.
Reply:A black rose is really just a dark purple color. There is no such thing as a true "black" rose. The closest thing is called a black baccara rose. Here is a picture:

Reply:While no jet-black rose yet exists, there are some of such a deep red as to suggest black.
Reply:No, no truly black rose. Breeders have been and are still trying, but the closest they can get is a deep red or Burgundy color. I honestly don't think they will ever get it because black is not a true color, but I'm sure they will get close eventually.

There isn't a true blue either, but there are breeders in Germany who have gotten very close. If you are interested in seeing the blue roses here is the link:
