Ok...My family owns a flower shop and we are looking for some kind of database or program that we can put our customers email addresses into that will automatically send the customer a personalized email to remind them of an important date or event. I don't know where to start looking on the net for such a program, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just did a quick search on "email reminder service".
Most of the results were for personal reminders but this one is also for reminding others: http://www.pcreminder.com/
Besides setting up reminders there is huge business value in having an email list to keep in touch with your customers.
Since you'll need to ask for your customer's email for the reminder I'd suggest creating a newsletter for your customers and asking their permission to send it to them when get their email. Getting permission is super important so your email's aren't seen as spam.
