How can I stop cats using my garden as a litter tray?

have cleared it up and put down cat repellent from DIY shop but that hasn't helped. Have put bark chippings round flower beds but still no help. Wouldn't mind but I don't even have a cat!!!

How can I stop cats using my garden as a litter tray?
There is a plant called Coleus Canina (also known as Scaredy Cat Plant) which has purposely been been created to repel cats from gardens.

Experiments with over 300 plants have now produced the ultimate deterrent. Cats, dogs and even foxes will avoid the Pee-off plant as it's affectionately known. This attractive Coleus has excellent foliage and small, attractive spikes of blue flowers in the summer, and releases a stench that cats can't stand. Thankfully it only smells to the human nose when touched! Annual, but can easily be propagated and cuttings kept in a frost-free place over winter. Plants need to be established before the smell is released, be in drier rather than wet soil and planted every 1-2 metres (36 inches apart). Supplied as cell-raised plants.

Further plant details;

Half-hardy Annual

Flowers: August to September

Height: 24 inches

Position: Sun or Partial Shade

You should be able to find this plant at a garden centre locally or on-line.

Good luck.
Reply:Yep, first answer is right. Scatter some orange peel around your flower beds and they'll soon get the message!
Reply:Most cats don't like citrus smells, so try orange and lemon peel, or zest spray.
Reply:i had same problem... i got myself a cat and it stopped.. weird eh?
Reply:Get a dog.. haha just kidding

put orange or lemon peels throughout your garden.. cats hate those! also cats hate hate hate the smell of garlic, if that helps. You might want o bury some garlic cloves in your garden, or sprinkle garlic salt on/around your plants
Reply:Lemon, cats hate it. Slice or grate the lemon (oranges work too) and throw it all round the garden. Jiff lemon juice works too.
Reply:call animal control. there is someone that doesn't have control over their cat and that is illegal. the cat should be on their property or on a leash. it is irresponciable for cat owners to allow their cat to go out and roam on their own and get into other people's properties.
Reply:put bottles of water every where i swear cats hate water or get a timed water sprayer end of cat headace
Reply:Get an Apache attack cat helicopter!
Reply:It's something you will never stop short of covering your garden with net, once they have started using your garden they will always go back no matter what you do they will smell where they have been before, if you see the cat going in your garden all you have to do and keep on doing till they get the message is to go out clapping your hands and chase it away....
Reply:Try orange or lemon peel that is good

Do you know amyone who has a dog the smell of a dog in the garden can put cats off

Good Luck
Reply:Par-bury citrus peel in your flower beds - cats find the smell too strong and acrid, so will not go anywhere where the peel is buried. It's cheap (I presume you eat citrus fruit anyway!), natural, and won't hurt the cats.
Reply:My yard is the neighborhood cat box. I've had great success with a motion sensor sprinkler called the Scarecrow. It sends out a burst of water when something moves in the garden.

It's pricey, but it works:

Reply:buy a dog statue. maybe they'll get scared if they see it or get a rat and throw it on your neighbour everyday. see if there's still cat poop in your garden.
Reply:get your own cat! They are very territorial so your cat wont let other cats in without a fight.
Reply:Try some spray like air freshener or something that smells of lemon/orange. Cats despise the smell and will stay away. Or get a dog!!

hope that helps
Reply:I would go with the lemon peel. And or moth balls. They both seem to do the trick. And if you know whos cat it is. Have a talk with them about it and see if they can not keep there cat at home. It isnt soupose to be our loose. I have had the same problem with others cats. And my dog keeps them out of the back. I keep an eye out in the front. What also helps is if you can catch them in the yard and you have a water hose. I have found that hosing them down till gone from the yard keeps them from coming back.
Reply:Get a cat of your own
Reply:I have the same problem. I feel for you, I myself have no cats but I do have a dog. This won't even keep the cats away. Animal control is no help either. Rocks are doing the trick so far. Try that. If not use a can of tuna and some antifreeze.
Reply:moth balls
Reply:Try filling your garden up with more plants so there is no free dirt space for them . You won't stop them and nothing does work from DIY shops, they are a waste of money.

Have some garden ornaments aswell on the free spaces.
Reply:rent a loft apartment
Reply:This is guaranteed to work as i use it. Go to a pet shop and they have this chrystal especially to stop cats coming into your garden. Its in a plastic bottle its a bit like perfumed gelled chrystals and one dose last ages even in rainy weather. Ask for this in the pet shop. colours are usually green and sometimes blue. Good luck with this! x x
Reply:garlic or onion..they dont like the smell....
