Am I the only one who sees Valentine's Day for what it is?

It's such a bogus holiday. Why can't people see past the fact that it's just out there so flower shops, candy stores and card companies can make money.



Why can't couples just celebrate their love for eachother on anniversaries or birthdays or something...why does their need to be another day? It's such a capitolist holiday, it's kind of disgusting.



I wouldn't even buy anything, but I imagine my own girlfriend is so wrapped up into it that if i don't do the cliche thing and buy flowers and so on, I'll get ripped a new one...

Reply:I agree that Valentine's Day is a commercial holiday, but it is also a day when most people who are too busy can do something special for somone they love. As much as we all want to show people in our lives how special they are to us or how much we love them, we all get wrapped up in life's everyday problems and sometimes we forget. I think Valentine's Day is a day that helps us to remember to stop and think of all the people in our lives who many feel unappreciated.

Reply:I sort of agree with you in many ways....and my husband used to think I was crazy before we had been together for a long time, when I would say erhmmmmmm actually dont like roses at ALL, so if you really feel that you have to get me something then could you get me those Chinese bamboo plants, still got ever one from the 5 years we have been married.



I think its wayyyyyyyyy out of proportion and really just for the card people and flower industry........



Also REALLY dislike teddy bears etc and much rather when he has taken my car and filled it up with gas and all the little things he does every day he is home than the once a year guilt thing cos he HAS to.



That said he knows no matter what I get a card or I am NOT a happy bunny lol lol
Reply:wow, i agree with u, it is not special day to me, i think people should decide on their own special holiday to celebrate not some holiday someone create for them to celebrate.



they should decide which date is special for them not crappy holiday



well i think u can celebrate but not but not big day that u have to buy things for the girl, no fence , i think it is kind of gay
