How can I determine the number of businesses in America that meet certain criteria (e.g. with < 50 employees)

I'm looking for a way to find information about small businesses in America, such as the # of businesses that employ %26lt; 5 employees, # of businesses that make %26lt; $1 million in revenue per year, # of flower shops (bakeries, ...). I think the census bureau might offer this but I couldn't find it on their site. Thanks!!

Two companies that offer searchable databases with this kind of info are Dun %26amp; Bradstreet and Hoovers. Their websites have limited free services. The detailed searches you'll probably have to pay for.

Or try your local library. They may have reference books that would help, and they may offer free online access to databases like D%26amp;B that would normally not be free.
